Guyana, whose official name is Republic of Guyana, is a country in northern South America, UNASUR member. Bounded on the north by the Atlantic Ocean, on the east by Suriname, to the west by Venezuela and Brazil to the south. It also is often referred to British Guiana, its old name when it was a British colony.

The western two thirds of the country claimed by Venezuela, called for this area as Guyana Essequibo, also its other neighbor, Suriname, claims for itself a part of the eastern territory.

The main economic activity is agriculture, which employs most of the workforce. In coastal polders extend fields of rice, other food crops (vegetables, tubers) and fruit (citrus, coconut).

Among the main agricultural exports worth noting cocoa, coffee and especially sugar. Fishing activity, favored by the continental shelf, allowing the sale abroad of shrimp.
